Downtown revitalization happens one building, one block, and one connection at a time.

Today marks an important milestone for the historic Citizens National Bank building at 212 West Main Avenue with the official groundbreaking celebration for its next chapter.

Originally opened more than 100 years ago as a civic and commercial anchor for Gaston County, the building is being reimagined as a mixed-use destination that will once again contribute to the life of downtown Gastonia. The first phase will establish a new vehicular and pedestrian pass-through from Main Avenue to the Rotary Pavilion and the existing parking beyond—creating a stronger physical connection between Main Street and the public spaces behind it.

Future phases will include health and wellness offices, The Fed, a signature upscale downtown eatery, and The Exchange, a private business club.

This is adaptive reuse at its best: preserving the character of a historic building while giving it a renewed purpose within the evolving urban fabric of downtown Gastonia.

Congratulations to Jim Morasso, the CNB 1920 ownership group, Rycon Construction, and everyone involved in bringing this vision forward. We look forward to seeing this landmark building become an active part of Main Street once again.

Follow along as the transformation continues.
